I guess an investment feels risky when you’re not sure what’s going to happen with it. If the price jumps around a lot, it freaks me out. Some stuff just feels less predictable than others.

Risk mostly comes from how stable the asset is. If the price moves too fast or the company behind it looks shaky, the uncertainty goes up. Some assets just have way more ‘unknowns’ built in.

Different assets carry different risks because they react to different things. Stocks depend on earnings, bonds depend on rates, commodities depend on global demand. The more variables you have, the more ways things can go wrong.

Risk comes from volatility, liquidity, and how sensitive the asset is to macro events. If something can drop 10% on a headline or you can’t exit a position fast, that’s real uncertainty. Some assets are basically drama magnets.

An investment is risky when future cash flows are hard to forecast, the market structure is thin, or the asset is exposed to multiple external shocks. Assets differ in uncertainty because their drivers differ: regulation, leverage, sector cycles, geopolitical exposure, or simply the quality of information available. The fewer reliable signals you have, the higher the risk premium.
